Opening Times

The University of Dundee Botanic Garden is open to visitors throughout the year except for Christmas Day, Boxing Day and the first two days of January.

ADMISSION CHARGES FROM 1ST JANUARY 2008

Entry for University Staff and Students is free (except events) on production of a valid staff/matriculation card.

How to get here by car

The University of Dundee Botanic Garden is situated near Dundee's International Airport on the outskirts of Dundee's City Centre.

From Perth (A90), turn right at Swallow Hotel roundabout onto Riverside Avenue. Turn left at next round about and the Dundee Botanic Garden is approximately 330 yards on your right hand side.

From Dundee (Kingsway West), turn left at Swallow Hotel round about onto Riverside Avenue. Turn left at next round about and the Dundee Botanic Garden is approximately 330 yards on your right hand side.

Alternatively you can take the Perth Road from Dundee City Centre and turn left on Riverside Drive. The Dundee Botanic Garden is approximately 330 yards on your left hand side.

Public Transport

Bus 9X from Whitehall Street, Dundee Buses 16,72,75,76,96 from Seagate Bus Station, Dundee. 96 also from St Andrews.

Room Hire

Education Centre

Our Education Centre is available for hire during the day and in the evening. It can hold up to 40 people sitting in lecture style rows. A typical morning session would be from 10.00am to 1.00pm and a typical afternoon session would be from 1.30pm to 4.30pm, although these times can be fexible. The cost for a morning or afernoon session is £45.00 (per 3 hour session). The cost for a full day hire - 10.00am to 4.30pm is £90.00. The hourly rate is £15.00 per hour. The cost for an evening hire is £20.00 per hour.

Log Cabin

The Log Cabin is available for hire during the day only. It can hold up to 10 people sitting around a table. A typical morning session would be from 10.00am to 1.00pm and a typical afternoon session would be from 1.30pm to 4.30pm, although these times can be flexible. The cost of a morning or afternoon session is £24.00 (per 3 hour session). The cost of a full day hire - 10.00am to 4.30pm is £48.00. The hourly rate is £8.00 per hour. If the generator is required to provide heat/light then a further £3.00 per hour will be added to your invoice.

Glass Classroom

The Glass Classroom is available during the day only. It can hold up to 30 people sitting in lecture style rows. A typical morning session would be from 10.00am to 1.00pm and a typical afternoon session would be from 1.30pm to 4.30pm, although these times can be flexible. The cost of a morning or afternoon session is £24.00 (per 3 hour session). The cost of a full day hire - 10.00am to 4.30pm is £48.00. The hourly rate is £8.00 per hour.

Equipment Hire

Rates are per 3 hour session

Televison and video - £10.00

Overhead projector - £20.00

Slide projector - £20.00

Digital projector - £50.00

Outside Lectures

These are available at a cost of £50.00 plus expenses.

Guided Tours

Pre-booked guided walks are available at a cost of £5.00 per person subject to a minimum charge of £50.00. Guided walks last for approximately 1.5 hours.

Weddings

Photographs

The cost of having your wedding photographs taken at the Garden is £60.00. You must book for this service through the Garden Office - telephone 01382 381190. The fee must be paid in full at the time of booking and is non-refundable.

Ceremonies

The prices below are guide prices, as weddings are a very individual occasion the final price will depend on your individual requirements. You must book for this service through the Garden Office - telephone 01382 381190 when you have contacted the Garden Office an appointment will be made to discuss your requirements and other guidelines and information will be given to you. A £50.00 deposit will be required at the time of booking, with full payment required 3 months before the date of your wedding.

Wedding Ceremony in Garden/Glasshouse - £100.00 + £1 per person

Wedding Ceremony under the Wooden Gazebo - £150.00 + £1 per person

We will provide one table, 2 chairs and 2 garden benches at the agreed location in the Garden.

Wedding Ceremony in the Education Centre - £200.00 + £1 per person

The Education Centre can hold up to 40 people sitting in rows therefore we will provide up to 40 chairs and one table.

Wedding Ceremony in Garden's Marquee

20' x 20' marquee - £200.00 + £1 per person

20' x 30' marquee - £250.00 + £1 per person

20' x 40' marquee - £300.00 + £1 per person

The Garden's marquee is a traditional canvas marquee. The marquee has no flooring therefore is only suitable for "mix and mingle" receptions.

Privately Hired Marquees - a wedding ceremony in a privately hired marquee is possible; however normal entry charges will be charged for guests eg £3.00 for adults, £1.00 for children etc and a facilities fee of £150.00 which will cover the cost of electricity, toilet facilities and a duty gardener.

The Coffee Shop

Our The Coffee Shop offers light meals (homemade soup, toasted sandwiches, delicious baked potatoes), home baking and speciality teas and coffees. The Coffee Shop is open 7 days from 9.00am to 5.00pm. It is open also to persons not visiting the Garden.

Plant Centre

Pick up a bargain in our well-stocked Plant Centre.

Coach Parties and Groups

The Coffee Shop can accommodate up to 60 persons for lunches, snacks and refreshments. Please give 24 hours notice prior to arrival.

Toilet facilities, including disabled facilities, are provided. All car parks and paths are level and wheelchair friendly. Wheelchairs can be borrowed from both the Visitor Centre and Coffee Shop.
